An animal Health Inspector /Technician`s duties include rendering of animal health
care and extension services in animal health, animal disease surveillance and
animal movement control.
Job Characteristics

Providing support to the veterinarian.
Monitoring and surveillance of animal disease
through on farm inspection and stock inspection control.
Residue control, animal feed for ruminant proteins
control and other control functions needed.
Controlling of animal movement in accordance
with set
requirements and standards.
Maintenance of various registers and control
thereof both in the
field and in the veterinarians office.
Secondary Education A HIGCSE/IGCSE certificate (Grade 12) acceptable
to the College of Agriculture e.g. Neudamm Compulsory subjects: Mathematics,
Physics and Biology.
Tertiary Education A three year diploma in animal health can be taken
at the Namibian University College of Agriculture (Neudamm) or any
of several agricultural colleges in the SADC region and beyond. Also,
a three year distance eduction national diploma in animal health is
available through the Technikon South Africa.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS An animal health technician should be someone who
is vigilant , hard working , accurate and scientifically inclined.
