Anthropologist

An anthropologist make competitive studies in relation to the distribution,origin, evolution and races of humans, culture he/she has created and his/her distribution and physical characteristics.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS
  • Gathering and analysing information on social and cultural behavior, artefact's, language and biology of groups and societies.
  • Collecting, identifying, dating, protecting and preserving indigenous artefact's, material possession and other object of anthropological interest.

REQUIREMENTS

Secondary Education
Possession of at least a HIGCSE Grade 12 or equivalent Qualification with matriculation exemption is required for admission to south African Universities.

Recommendation subjects:
History, Biology, Geography and Languages.

Tertiary Education
A B.A degree in Anthropological is offered at most South African universities. A M.A in Anthropology is required in order to go into specialised fields such as: Ethnography, Archeology, Linguistic, Biological/Physical and social/cultural Anthropology.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
A prospective candidate must be willing to go through subjective crises and should be able to maintain objectivity at all times. He/she must be strong, tolerant, humble and persistent.

WORK OPPORTUNITIES

Anthropologists are employed in government, museums, universities development agencies. They can also work independently as consultants.
