Conductor (Bus/Train Attendant)

Conductors collect or issue and examine tickets and take care of safety and comfort on trains, buses, and other public transport vehicles.

Job Characteristics
  • Collecting or issuing tickets, passes or fares, or checking the validity of tickets issued previously.


  • Taking care of sleeping-cards on passenger trains, including the checking of passengers’ tickets, their safety and information requests.


  • Ensuring that safety regulations are respected.


  • Giving information to passengers, especially about stops and connections.


  • Co-operating with the driver in maintaining time schedules.


  • Taking appropriate action in case of emergencies or accidents.

Requirements

Secondary Education
Possession of at least a Grade 10 certificate, or equivalent qualification.
 
Tertiary Education
No formal training is provided but candidates receive a 6-week training course at the TransNamib College on passenger attendance.

Personality
The prospective candidate must be reliable, responsible, friendly and neat since he/she works closely with the public.

Work Opportunities
Conductors can be employed at TransNamib, municipalities and private transport companies.
