Job Characteristics
- Diagnosing and treating a wide variety of illnesses.
- Preparing special homoeopathic remedies which are
highly-diluted forms of natural substances, and selling such remedies.
- Prescribing proven remedies to patients and closely
monitoring the healing process.
- Assessing a patient’s/client’s
personal circumstances as well as his/her mental and emotional
state in order to match the homoeopathic
remedies to both the symptoms and the individual.
Requirements
Secondary Education
Possession of at least a HIGCSE or outstanding IGCSE Grade 12, or equivalent
qualification, is required to be admitted to a South African technikon.

Mathematics and Physical Science (South Africa)
Recommended subject
Biology (South Africa)
Tertiary Education
A five-year-diploma course is offered at the Technikons: Natal and
Witwatersrand. Lectures and tutorials are combined with clinical and
laboratory work. After completion the candidate obtains the Master’s
Diploma in Technology: Homoeopathy.
After the fifth year a one-year
internship should be completed. In South Africa it is laid down by
the Chiropractors, Homoeopaths and Allied Health Service Professions
Council of South Africa.
No training is currently offered in Namibia, but prospective homoeopaths
must register with the Homoeopaths Board of Namibia, as well as the
Namibian Association of Natural and Healing Therapists, before they
can practice.
Personality
The prospective homoeopath should be a mature, responsible and sympathetic
individual.
Work Opportunities
Homoeopaths generally open private practices or join other practitioners
in a partnership.
