- Ensuring the safety of the inventory as well as maintaining inventory
records.
- Acknowledging the arrival of new stock and advising other interested
departments thereof.
- Inspecting and checking all deliveries and returning rejected stock to
suppliers.
- Checking all incoming accounts against issued purchase orders.
- Supervising the movement of stock to production areas.
Requirements
Secondary Education
For studies at South African technikons a HIGCSE or outstanding IGCSE
Grade 12, or equivalent qualification, is required. At least a HIGCSE/IGCSE
Grade 12, or equivalent qualification, is needed by most institutions
offering in-service training.
Recommended subjects
Mathematics, Accounting, Business Studies (South
Africa)
Tertiary Education
Not applicable in most cases, as in-service training is undertaken. Some
South African technikons offer courses in Inventory and Stores Management,
e.g., Technikon Port Elizabeth , while the Technikon South Africa offer
the N. Dip. and B. Tech. in Purchasing Management.
Personality
The prospective inventory and stores manager must be an honest and accurate
person with good writing- and organizational skills.
Work Opportunities
Inventory and stores managers are employed at companies that deliver
goods and render the same services as large retail stores.
