Labourer
A labourer carries out simple and routine tasks for which not a great
deal of insight is required but physical input is a necessity. Labourers
normally act on instructions and are active in a wide variety of environments,
such as mining and quarrying, construction and maintenance, manufacturing,
assembling and sorting, etc..

Job
Characteristics
- Moving, lifting, carrying and loading materials and products.
- Cleaning, tidying and clearing waste and spillage.
- Assisting, under supervision, skilled workers in performing their tasks.
- Digging and filling holes and trenches, and spreading gravel, sand and
related materials.
- Mixing mortar, grounding materials and cement.
- Washing and cleaning machinery, tools and equipment.
Requirements
Secondary Education
There are no secondary educational requirements. A certain minimum level
of literacy is recommended.
Tertiary Education
On-the-job training is provided.
Personality
A labourer should be trustworthy, reliable and physically fit.
Work Opportunities
Almost all industries and businesses employ labourers.
