Organisation and Workstudy Officer

Organisation and workstudy officers act as change agents or in an advisory capacity to management with regard to the application of operational methods relating to various aspects of business undertakings such as marketing, application of rules concerning patents, or steps to be taken in setting-up and running a business as well as home economic principles.

Job Characteristics
  • Conducting research and determining or advising on existing levels of sales for particular products or services as well as assessing potential markets and future trends.


  • Providing advice concerning patents and assisting in the preparation of applications, or examining applications submitted for registration, as well as writing reports, submitting reasons for rejection or granting of a patent.


  • Studying and advising on financial, legal, organisational, marketing and other aspects connected to the setting-up and running of a business.


  • Studying, interpreting and informing about and advising on principles of home economics and management with a view of promoting welfare of families, consumption of household goods or the promotion of new products.


  • Analysing existing labour practices and developing new ones by means of various work study techniques.

Requirements
 
Secondary Education
Possession of at least a HIGCSE Grade 12, or equivalent qualification, with matriculation exemption is required to be admitted to a South African university. A HIGCSE or outstanding IGCSE Grade 12, or equivalent qualification, is needed to enrol at a South African technikon.

Twenty five (25) points on the UNAM point evaluation scale and passes in at least five subjects on HIGCSE/IGCSE Grade 12 level, or equivalent qualification, must be obtained to be admitted to UNAM.

Tertiary Education
South African universities offer degree courses that equip the candidate to work as organisation and workstudy officer. A B. Sc., B. Com., B. Admin., B. Econ. or B.A. degree can be completed at UNAM.

Although these courses can offer a sound background, they do not equip the person to work as an organisation and workstudy officer. 

Some South African technikons offer the N. Dip.: Organisation and Workstudy.

Personality
The prospective organisation and workstudy officer should have the ability to think logically, be patient, original, objective, persevering, precise and maintain good interpersonal relationships.

Work Opportunities
The prospective organisation and workstudy officer can be employed in the government, municipalities as well as in private organisations.
