Digital Links Supply 1,000 Computers to SchoolNet Namibia

We are pleased to be supplying 1,000 second-user computers to the Schoolnet Namibia National Programme, widely recognised as the most successful school computerisation and Internet connectivity model in Africa. The computers will be used as thin client workstations, networked with new servers and running free and Open Source Software.

Schoolnet Namibia had exacting requirements, not least needing 1,000 identical machines to make networking easier and to reduce maintenance costs. Digital Links has prided itself on striving to meet the specific hardware requirements of its implemetation partners in Africa and was pleased to be able to meet Schoolnet Namibia's specifications and target price.
A network of 'thin client' workstations (computers without hard drives) connected to a central server, is a low-cost, low-maintenance solution that SchoolNet Namibia has been pioneering for a number of years. In general, this system runs more efficiently, and when it is combined with Open Source software (which is free to share), it provides a very affordable network solution for use in schools.
