Information Communication Technology (ICT)
This "living" HTML document was developed
during the last year of our service. The three of us were all PC
IT volunteers in group 20 and had sites in Northern Namibia. We
wanted to develop a document summarizing the best practices that
we had found during our service so that subsequent IT volunteers
would not have to "reinvent the wheel". more

The
Impact of AIDS in Namibia
After a successful and lauded start
to the Impact of HIV/AIDS on Katutura website in 2002, SchoolNet
Namibia's AIDS website project changed course in 2003, and turned
its attentions to getting Namibian learners to contribute their
own insights and efforts about the impact they saw AIDS and HIV
was having on their home towns.
Six schools from five different regions received training in website design
and research methods from the same core team which hit the streets of Katutura
the previous year. Each group, whether based in the industrialized port
town location of Kuisebmond, in
the Wambo heartland of Oshakati,
or the westernmost reaches of Caprivi,
set out to profile the the people and places they thought best showcased
their communities' struggle with Namibia's epidemic. But even if in each
case the methods the children learned were the same as those applied in
SchoolNet's initial project, each team has produced a picture and adopted
an attitude about AIDS that reflects the individuality of the places they
live. Visit the updated Katutura AIDS
site. Read the project guide developed
by the Katutura team.

The Impact of Aids in Katutura
The
Impact of HIV/AIDS on Katutura was developed at SchoolNet
as a response to the InformED website competition. It was subsequently
entered into the Global Junior Challenge website
exhibition, where it was awarded a
special Global Youth Incubator Prize. Three members of the SchoolNet
team were invited to Rome to take part; you can also read their
travel diaries online soon. To see how you can get involved in
an AIDS website project, look at the AIDS
website project guide, especially prepared for schools.
