By using the services of a SchoolNet volunteer
ICT trainer/troubleshooter, the EC agrees to be bound by all
terms of this MOU and its Terms of Service.
The EC agrees and acknowledges: 1. This MOU permits
EC to use the services of a SchoolNet volunteer ICT trainer/troubleshooter
with respect to Openlab solutions installed on computers that the
EC uses for internet access and educational purposes.
2. The SchoolNet volunteer ICT trainer/troubleshooter shall be expected,
to the best of her/his abilities, to work with and instruct identified
ICT personnel and learners at the EC with respect to Openlab solutions
installed on computers that the EC uses for internet access and educational
purposes.
3. The aim of the ICT trainer/troubleshooter’s service is to
nurture and encourage personal control over the ICT environment, comfort
in the
use of ICT tools, trust in a professional SchoolNet service, and above
all, build respect for the intelligence and ability of educators and
learners to use ICTs creatively through integration into current and
relevant class curriculum.
4. The scope of the ICT trainer/troubleshooter’s service shall
include:
transfer of basic ICT system administration, management and troubleshooting
skills; transfer of internet access, communication and usage skills;
providing examples of the practical use of ICT applications for integration
in the current, formal and relevant learning environments at the EC;
creating an enabling environment for educators and learners to use the
computer as a working and relevant learning tool, as well as learn new
concepts and skills; providing practical examples to continuous assessment
and evaluation of learning outcomes resulting from integrated ICT learning;
building local user capacity In order to maximise the impact of SchoolNet’s
ICT programme through school clustering. It is believed that through
clustering, schools are able to jointly plan and prepare for the maximal
use of the OpenLabs as well as share resources and community support;
and assisting the EC to establish a Cluster Computer Committee comprising
ICT Facilitators from the cluster member schools, responsible for managing
the daily operations of the various OpenLabs, securing onsite support
and assisting with continuous staff development.
5. When a technical problem occurs, it is the responsibility
of the EC to identify the problem and contact other cluster members
for support. During this period the EC and Cluster Computer Committee
should record all steps followed to solve the problem, to keep
an record of problems as well as use this for reporting or reference
for future problem identification.
6. The EC shall ensure that a log book is kept up to date with a record
of all computer activities, faults and repair. Important issues like
computer and internet downtime, data loss, etc. should also be noted
in this log book. The EC is required to share all these experiences at
regular cluster meetings to give insight to other member OpenLabs, should
they experience the same problems in future. If the problem can not be
resolved among OpenLab cluster members, the EC then needs to contact
SchoolNet for assistance. Once again, activities needs to be logged to
ensure records are kept for future reference. During these operations
at least two representatives of the school need to manage the technical
support procedures. The objective behind this, is to ensure that more
than one person will be able to fix the problem should it occur again.
7. The SchoolNet ICT trainer/troubleshooter
shall report at school at normal opening time, and have tea and
lunch
breaks in accordance with school policy. A timetable of ICT activities
will be prepared and agreed on by the ICT trainer/troubleshooter
and the EC’s ICT Facilitator(s). While the ICT trainer/troubleshooter
is obligated to be active during normal school hours, she/he is
encouraged to arrange for extra-mural afternoon and weekend activities
to engage educator, learner AND community participation in the
OpenLab. A copy of this timetable (inclusive of extra-mural activities)
and any problem reports must be sent to SchoolNet within two weeks
of the ICT trainer/troubleshooter’s arrival at the school.
8. The SchoolNet ICT trainer/troubleshooter shall
be securely and safely accommodated by the EC at suitable premises
to be determined by the EC, and she/he will be provided with adequate
daily meals at the cost of the EC.
9. The EC shall be responsible for transport requirements, if any, of
the SchoolNet ICT trainer/troubleshooter to and from the school.
10. The SchoolNet ICT trainer/troubleshooter shall remain at the school
for the duration of the service period determined in this MOU, subject
to the terms and conditions contained herein.
11. On completion of the service period, the EC’s ICT Facilitator(s)
and SchoolNet ICT trainer/troubleshooter shall jointly prepare a report
of logged skills transfer, training activities, problems, educational
outcomes, next steps, wishes and recommendations.
12. If the EC wishes to extend the service period of the SchoolNet ICT
trainer/troubleshooter beyond the service period determined in this MOU,
the EC shall contact SchoolNet for a renewal of the MOU, with revision
of terms and conditions, and subject to findings and recommendations
in the report tendered for the prior service period.
